Final Cut Pro Tip #036 – Ripple Delete vs Lift

If you have worked on an Avid, you are familiar with the lift command. Personally I hate the trim lift, but it does a good job of describing exactly what it does. I like to use the term delete, but for the sake of continuity, I will use FCP terms.

Lift (delete) – Simply removes the clip(s) from the timeline not effecting any other clips.

Ripple Delete (shift delete) – Removes the clip(s) from the timeline, but closing the gab that would have been left if using a lift. Effectively rippling down though the rest of the timeline. Caution should be used when performing this command, as several undesired results may occur.
